Today is Day #4 of the Jaftex 85th Anniversary Blog Hop. It’s been a privilege to be in the Henry Glass family for over 8 years now. To help Jaftex celebrate their 85th anniversary, I’ve stitched this quilt “Hearts Bloom in God’s Word” from some of the Folio Basics by Color Principle. The borders are from my “Starry Basics” collection. The screen-printed scriptures are available through The Whole Country Caboodle. This project is a great keepsake quilt to make for yourself or to give to a loved one. We hope that you enjoy it for years to come.
If you want to win a bundle of the of the Color Principle fabrics that were used in the quilt, make sure to leave a comment on this post answering the following question...What is your favorite keepsake quilt you have ever made or received? I will choose the winner by October 1st.
Make sure to check out Mark Lipinski’s blog tomorrow : Mark Lipinski! Following days are listed on the side bar!

85th Anniversary Giveaway
Apparently we don't go in for keepsake quilts in my family. I got a quilt when I got married but it got mildewed and destroyed around 6 years later. Four years ago I made a wonky sorta log cabin using some of my Mom's scraps as the centers. This quilt probably started my quilting journey. I bought a long arm so I could quilt it, as I couldn't see me trying to get my little Bernina to handle the oversized queen it turned out to be. I call it Mom's Sunflowers as each square starts with one of her sunflowers. Thanks.

I'm going to say it is the one I'm working on right now--isn't that so often the case? I'm making a log cabin, and I've used scraps from every quilt I've ever made. So many memories, of the people I quilted for, and the occasions both happy and sad. It's funny to see the baby fabrics for kids who are now cool teenagers, and tender to see the fabric I chose to comfort loved ones through illnesses. A very special addition to the quilt was when I found some fabric my mother had used to create Christmas gifts for her friends, thirty years ago. I was so happy to include that in my quilt; how can this not be my very favorite keepsake quilt now?
ReplyDeleteDear friends made creative memory blocks for me when I moved from North Carolina to New York. They put so much love into those blocks and I treasure them to this day. This gift was more than 20 years ago. I love your scripture quilt!
ReplyDeleteI have kept the quilts my boys had when they were babies. And I have a quilt that my Great Aunt and my Father, whom she raised. worked on together back in the 30's..
ReplyDeleteActually mine is an embroidered sheet from the late 1800's. It was my grandmothers.
ReplyDeleteFavorite quilt..one I designed of our farm..it's a wall hanging for one of the grandkids.
ReplyDeleteMy mom and I quilted and appliqued a quilt together on a vacation in New Hampshire. I will always treasure this quilt.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite keepsake quilts is one I made this spring for my mothers 80th birthday. The quilt pattern itself is very simple, but prior to piecing it I sent blocks out to all of the children, grandchildren, spouses and other family members and had them write memories and draw pictures on them. I then hand embroidered over all of the writing to preserve it and sewed everything together. When I presented it to Mom she was not expecting it at all and was so happy to have it. There were some wonderful things I learned about my mom that I never knew before collecting those blocks. 💜
ReplyDeleteI made a quilt for my first grandchild, Hannah. Our last name is Bird, so it was a bird theme. I love it so much!
ReplyDeleteYou know to be honest I don't remember what the name of my favorite Keepsake Quilt, but I do remember it was a fall pattern and had the most beautiful fall colors and prints. Leaves, pumpkins everything Fall:) I've been ill for about four years now, and I'm just getting my mojo back and quilting, but the reason I remember it so clearly is I donated it to my church for a silent auction. I really had a hard time letting it go. Lol the money being raised was for a village in South Africa that our church was working with. So I gave in. Lol. Thank you for helping me remember that story.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite keepsake quilt is a a large watercolor style quilt that I made to celebrate my church's 150th anniversary. It hangs in the sanctuary now.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite keepsake quilt was a signature quilt I made for our former cub master several years ago. It was fun collecting the signatures.
ReplyDeleteI have not made a keepsake quilt so don't really have a favorite one although I have seen ones with photographs that commemorate certain occasions and I really like those.
ReplyDeleteI received hand stitched blocks made by my great-grandmother. They were never made into a quilt. I keep saying one of these days. :)

ReplyDeleteMy most meaningful keepsake quilt is the one that my Mother bought about 5 years prior to her death in 2008. It is a double wedding ring, accented in red. She would stand in her bedroom just staring at it.She truly loved it, and now I certainly do!!
ReplyDeleteMy most meaningful quilt was the one I made for my daughter Jennie. She is OCD and every square had to be perfect. I did a lot of taking out seams but in the end it was beautiful. It had 9 squares of bible verses. The main material had the forest flower. The others coordinated with the forest flower material. She designed every inch of the quilt. We spent a lot of quality time together.
ReplyDeleteMy first quilt! Wrapped both my babies in it!
ReplyDeletemy first keepsake quilt is the one I am currently finishing. It is a 76" sq. quilt. A gift for my husband and myself for our 5th anniversary.
ReplyDeleteOur keepsake is a yo-yo pillow made by my husband's grandmother. It is so sweet.
ReplyDeleteNot sure how you define a keepsake quilt. I've gifted many quilts so it's hard to decide on a favorite, maybe the alphabet quilt I made for my first grandson, or the wedding quilt made for his parents, or the tuxedo cat quilt made for my sister-in-law, or the delectable mountains quilt for my brother-in-law who is now in remission from leukemia. Each quilt has it's own memories and they are all precious.
ReplyDeleteI have several, but the one that comes to mind is my first quilt I designed for my daughter. I just revisited pictures of it and couldn't be more pleased!

ReplyDeleteThe favorite quilt I received is a challenge with my niece using an ugly fabric it is on my sewing room wall
ReplyDeleteThe very first quilt I ever made was a keepsake quilt made for my grandparents' 60th wedding anniversary. I cross-stitched their monogram in the center with their wedding anniversary, and then cross stitched all their grandchildren's wedding anniversaries in subsequent blocks. I didn't know how to quilt, so I just tied it, and put a ready-made binding on it. That was in 1993. I've learned much since then, but have many many more things to learn. Thx for asking....trip down memory lane ;)
ReplyDeleteApparently I have no quilts from my early years - they are my own making. I've 2 that are samplers - don't have them quilted yet - but soon.
ReplyDeleteOne of my very first quilts was a keepsake wall quilt for our head nurse, everyone signed the pieced blocks and it had preprinted friendship blocks too. crystalbluern at onlineok dot com

ReplyDeleteMy favorite keepsake quilt is a crazy quilt my grandmother and great grandmother collaborated on. It was one of 17 given to each of my grandma's grandchildren, each completely handstitched. Every piece was feather stitched so evenly that people often think it is machine stitched.
ReplyDeleteIt would have to be the quilt my grandmother made for me. She used scraps from the clothing my mom made for me. It brings back so many wonderful memories. I think this quilt is what inspired me to take up quilting 10 years ago.

My favorite keepsake quilts are the ones I've made for a friend and a family member at their deaths. They were made as a representation of them, for their families to cuddle and remember them by. Both were different styles, and I challenged myself to learn something new each time. I poured all of my love and prayers into those quilts, as I made them.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite keepsake quilt is a '30s crazy quilt that my grandmother gave my brother to take to college. He thought it was too girly, so it was given to me. Lots of beautiful hand embroidery on all the seams. -- soparkaveataoldotcom
ReplyDeleteI am new to quilting and have never made anything that I would call a keepsake. I have also never been given a keepsake quilt. However my husband and I fought a quilt/coverlet at an auction about 17 years ago. It has a pieced top and a back with no batting. I guess it's technically not a quilt, but I love all the squares (even the ugly ones). It is getting tattered now, but I still love it. Have a great day! dawnm1993(at)gmail(dot)com
ReplyDeleteMy favorite keepsake quilt is a red & white pieced quilt that I use when the grandchildren come to visit. It's our "Picinic Quilt"! I first used it 14 years ago when my oldest grandchild was a baby and we needed something to put on the floor for her to lay on....it evolved into a picnic quilt for all 5 grandchildren & we use all year round. Apple juice or water are the only drinks allowed! : ) I love making memories with that sweet heirloom...the grandchildren will always remember Nana's Picnic Quilt!

ReplyDeleteMy favorite memory quilt is one I made for my mother. I used Pineapple Blocks in pastels (as salt water taffy) - it was called Courting Alice and had calla lilies on the label. These were her two favorite things. She had Alzheimer's so it was a memory quilt in more ways than one.
