Jolly Holiday Party: Day 5

Kate & I in Central Park
Greetings Friends…I want to tell you just a bit about me.  My name is Leanne Anderson and I own The Whole Country Caboodle.  I love designing, especially for Henry Glass.  They are a great fabric company and have given me some great opportunity.  So I am very grateful to them.
The most important people in my life are my family…my husband Ed, of almost 32 years.  My three amazing children, Shelby, Taylor and Kaytlyn and their spouses.  My latest loves are my two little grandchildren, Toby and Leighton.  They light up my life and are so special.  And I can’t leave out my little four-legged family members.  Chloe and Georgia are my Boston terrier dogs…we love them too.  So from my family to yours, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

I'm excited to show you our holiday project..."Snow-Mats Land"  This fun little table topper can be used all winter.  It's fun and fast!!
Click HERE to download the free pattern!

1.  What is my favorite holiday food?
I think my favorite holiday food would be frosted sugar cookies.  I remember the days that we would sit around the table and frost cookies…oh how I loved the frosting!!  My least favorite holiday food would have to be FRUITCAKE!!
2.  Favorite Family Tradition:
Christmas Eve service…Candlelight!! Love the service and it has been a tradition since I can remember.
3.  Did I like sitting on Santa’s lap?
Well, wasn’t my favorite thing but it seemed necessary in order to give him my list!!!
4.  Was there a gift I desperately wanted?  Did I get it?
Well, yes it was a pair of crushed velveteen bell-bottoms.  I was in junior high, I knew if I got them I would be the envy of every girl…and yes, I got them and I have to think that I was the envy!!
5.  What’s your favorite holiday movie?
I would have to say “It's a Wonderful Life”…Mary, is it really you!!
6.  Favorite holiday song?
Silent Night
7.  Do I make holiday presents?
I love to make presents.  I have great intentions to get more done than I do, but I love to make small quilt projects and I’m looking forward to making some things for my two new grandchildren.
8.  What kind of tree do I prefer?
I like a Frasier Fir…love the smell.  We love to go out as a family and cut our trees together, it’s so much fun.
9.  Favorite holiday memory?
I love Christmas and I have so many wonderful memories.  As a child it was waiting to see what Santa brought.  My brother and I would get up very early, and I remember how I felt when I saw what was under the tree…it was so exciting!!
10.  Do I like a big family gathering or a small dinner followed by hot chocolate by the fire?
I love my family, and I want to have them around.  Big or small, I just want my family.

I pray this gives you a little more insight into who I am and what Christmas means to me.  The most important reason that I celebrate Christmas is because of the birth of Jesus.  Without Him we would not have anything to celebrate…He is the Reason for the Season!!  Make sure to post your complete list of secret BIG words on the Henry Glass blog from November 20 – 26, 2011.  We will pick a winner of the Grand Prize Giveaway of assorted fabrics and a small gift from each designer.  I will also pick a winner from my comments that are posted.  Share your favorite tradition with me and I will pick a winner from them.

  4. Thank you for sharing the cute table mat. Favorite tradition is one passed thru the generations all the way to our founding fathers - no matter how hard the times - a precious bit of fruit (orange) was tucked in the stocking toe. And my kids (now adults) still dump the stocking to get to the orange first - part of our X-mas breakfast - even the grandsons have learned this.

  11. The table mat is adorable! When we were small my Mom always made a Happy Birthday Jesus cake for Christmas Eve. Mom became a professional cake decorator after retiring from teaching and one year made a beautiful cake - but we finally convinced her that THAT cake needed to be a box yellow cake with marshmallowy frosting. She thought we were nuts - but it was tradition! :0)

Christmas Eve at my Grandma L's house playing with all my tons of cousins, then driving around town on the way home, admiring all the beautiful twinkling lights and singing carols with Mom, Dad and my sisters... Christmas day at my Grandma S's and her oh-so-delicious ham and potatoes... Wish that I could go back in time for those wonderful holidays.. ReplyDelete
  58. What a cute wallhanging. Our favourite tradition(well mine anyway) is opening our Christmas stockings in bed on the 25th. Our son (now 27!!) joins us in our room as we find out what Santa left us. As I fill all 3 stockings my surprise quotient is low but I always treat myself to something small that I know I want. Last year it was a Dresden ruler.

It started out with her bringing small gifts, mostly useful things like cute kitchen towels, woolly socks or small gadgets like window scrapers for the car. Then we all started pitching in with small presents and it sometimes got silly! This will be our second Christmas without Aunt Lu, but we're keeping the tradition.

  81. My family tradition is my mom makes homemade ravioli's and we eat them for Christmas eve dinner. We're not Italian or anything, it's just such a treat because she doesn't make them often. (They are a lot of work.) When we were younger we always got to pick one gift to open on Christmas eve which was fun.

  82. Last year was the first year we were able to attend the Christmas Eve service at our church. It was so delightful, and this is going to be our new Christmas tradition. Thanks so much for the adorable pattern.

I love the first night when it gets dark and the lights are lit, I'll just sit in a chair and quietly think back on past Christmas times with family. So many wonderful memories. Thanks for the snowman pattern. My daughter calls my house the "snowman house". There's a handmade snowman on every step to the second floor and many, many more throughout the house. I think I need this tabletopper!!

  92. Thank you Leanne for the Snowman table topper pattern. Snowmen have always been a favorite of mine.
Decorating the house is my favorite tradition. About 40 years ago, my aunt made a small snowmen vignette. Every year I assemble the pieces and remember her and my mom (her sister). These two ladies were my inspiration to start quilting. Both are gone now, but their memory lives on.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I love watching christmas movies with my three daughters (16, 18, & 21) and my husband. We cuddle up onto the sectional with lots of quilts. We drink Mayfield eggnog or coffee with special creamers. We laugh and giggle until our sides hurt. Life is good!

My favorite holiday tradition is spending Christmas Eve with all my extended family, the women all go to church then later we gather at my brother's house for the rest of the evening and exchange our gifts, we all bring our favorite foods, snacks and desserts and visit with everyone and open our gifts. We've been doing this for over 28 years, it wouldn't be Christmas with out it.

  97. My favorite tradition is attending Christmas Eve candlelight services and then driving around to look at the lights around town.

  98. Thank you for the great little table topper. Such a cute pattern with the snowman on there.

I think the tradition that I love the most about Christmas is heading out to the local tree farm. My parents took us to the same tree farm which is still owned by the very same family as that has passed down through each generation as they years have gone by. My first trip to this tree farm was way back in 1960 and when I had my own children, I continued the same tradition with them. For their entire childhood we also went to the same tree farm I have gone to my entire life. It's just not the holidays without that trip out there. This farm has grown since my childhood and now has a huge fireplace you can sit in front of while playing with the Golden Retrieverss they raise who are always running around and always that time of the year there are puppies too. They have huge Draft horses pulling the wagons to take everyone out to the field if you want to cut your own tree down. It's such a festive place to visit with their homemade fudge and gift shop where they sell handmade ornaments from all over the world with many of them giving back to the countries they came from because each sold is also a donation to those who made each ornament. I just got my yearly newsletter yesterday in the mail which is always fun to read as it tells about their replanting they habe done this past year and all sorts of things they've had happen. Two years ago the entire family went overseas to help those in need and took donations for them which come from a portion of the Christmas tree sales. It's a great family and farm to go every year.

Now that I've written all that I'll add very quickly one more thing that's a tradition around my house. I've been making candies every year for the past 15 years now. Everyone looks forward to those and it's so much fun making them all.
Thank you again for the adorable table topper.

  108. My favourite tradition is to pull out each year a snowman made by my nan. She has been gone for a few years but it keeps her memory alive for me. Family is my tradition, together, celebrating.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Thanks for the cute table topper pattern! It's wonderful-and can be used all winter!

My favorite food for Christmas is also fruticake! I make several loaves-and my 90 year old dad and I eat the most!

For traditons, we always read the Christmas story from Luke. And now we have decided to do away with gift giving (except for stockings), and we give to charities what we would have spent on each other. It is better to give to those who have nothing, than just lavish on each other, who already have much.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Love the snowman pattern! My favorite tradition is opening presents. When my children were little I would act as crazy excited as they did and they loved it. Now they just think mom is goofy but if I don't act like that they get upset because they think I don't like the present. I know I make a fool of myself but it makes everyone laugh!

  111. My favorite Christmas tradition is trimming of the tree! And not so much the putting it away part! Thanks for the giveaway!

  122. Bellbottoms really bring me back to the day, although I don't remember any other than jean material. Thank you for the pattern. Traditionally on Christmas morning we play a movie and have a lovely breakfast together near the tree.

  127. I like your pattern. Thanks for allowing us to download it. My favorite Christmas tradition is to go to the Vigil Service on Christmas Eve and then come home to eat Italian Beef on rolls with chips and dip followed by Christmas cookies. Then after our granddaughter is in bed and asleep we put out all the gifts under the tree.

  132. Well thank-you for your table-topper fun, I love the friendly look of it. Just yesterday I was using a thermos to take some tea to my husband in hospital that my family gave us a few years ago and it reminded me of our giving tradition. We have a fairly large family so exchanging gifts could be a financial burden. In order to still be able to bless each other we decided to limit our gifts to just one. We put a cap on the value, say $30 and pulled names from a hat as to who gave what to whom. When we got together we each had a gift and it has always been something highly regarded. My hubby and I love to take our picnic pack and it has gone with us on train trips and outing for years. Another time a little portable fridge means (again only $30) has meant my husband has been able to keep his lunch fresh at work and has done for years. It is a blessing all year round!
